About the school

What we believe, how we teach, and the people who do it.

Introduction

A friendly space in which children learn and grow

Kovida Pre School is dedicated to engaging children in an early educational experience that is enriched, innovative, and committed to offering children and their families a friendly space in which they learn and grow.

Our education strives to help students become successful learners by supporting each child’s explorations and interactions within the classroom and playground environment. Teaching practices and learning opportunities draw inspiration from child-centred and constructivist pedagogies, which suggest the role of teachers in the classroom is to facilitate learning rather than deliver it.

The school sits in Raniban, in Ward 1 of Nagarjun Municipality, a short way up from Panitanki. Most of our families live within a few kilometres, and our bus routes are built around them.

Vision

A community where all children feel loved and respected

Our programme is planned to promote positive growth in all children. We adopt a holistic approach that enables each child to develop their social, physical, emotional and intellectual abilities.

Each child is unique and special, and positive early childhood experiences are keys to a child’s overall development in later life. Our programme promotes and maintains a safe environment that creates opportunities for children to develop and grow in a positive manner through appropriate role modelling.

Meal times are supervised and unhurried. Eating together is part of the curriculum, not a break from it.

Values

Four commitments we can be held to

Safety

Our pre-school provides a safe environment for all — in the classroom, on the ground, on the bus and at the gate.

Trained teachers

We hire only trained teachers to work with young children, and they are trained again, time and again.

Respect

All members of the school are equally respected — children, parents, teachers and support staff alike.

Care

We care for all our children like family. Like parents we protect them, and let them enjoy their childhood.

Teaching methodology

Theme based, hands on, in two languages

  • We use fun and interactive communicative activities such as games, songs, chants and stories.
  • Children are engaged in structured and free play to practise what they have learned in class.
  • Lessons are theme based; we nurture reading and communication through art and craft, show and tell, role plays and experiments.
  • After the day’s topic is presented, children work in small groups so the teacher can give each child more attention and support.
  • Group time gives children English and Nepali in a natural setting, rather than as a subject.
  • Classroom activities are planned to support the physical, social, emotional and intellectual development of the whole child.

Learning environment

We prefer the real to the fantasy

We believe an appealing environment promotes constructive activity and purposeful exploration, so we work at creating a joyful learning environment. That environment has two halves: the physical space, and the supportive, interactional space between the people in it.

The physical environment covers both the indoor and outdoor space of the school. It is set up to attract and invite children to explore and experiment with things, and we prefer real objects to fantasy ones. Different learning centres let children experiment and enjoy their learning, develop fine and gross motor skill, refine their language and build social skill.

Taken as a whole, it is an environment that develops children holistically. We are deliberate about how both the indoor and outdoor spaces enrich the learning potential of every child.

Our team

The adults your child will see every day

Class teachers, assistant teachers, an ayah for the youngest groups, kitchen staff, and a driver and helper on every bus route.

Kovida Pre School is a progressive early childhood education centre. We are committed to providing a vibrant and innovative environment for exploration, discovery and the construction of knowledge, in collaboration with teachers, children, parents and the community — in a safe and respectful environment which builds a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
