Raniban, Kathmandu
Kovida Pre School is a progressive early childhood and primary school. We keep classes small, teachers trained, and days full of the kind of play that quietly turns into reading, counting and confidence.
Who we are
Kovida Pre School is dedicated to engaging children in an early educational experience that offers children and their families a friendly space in which they learn and grow.
Our teaching draws on child-centred and constructivist practice, which in plain terms means the teacher is a facilitator rather than a lecturer. Children explore, ask, get things wrong, and try again — in the classroom, on the playground, and on the trips we take out of school.
We work in both English and Nepali, because children who are comfortable in both move through school with far less friction later on.

How we teach
Our lessons are theme based. A single theme — water, festivals, the market, the body — runs through story time, art, songs and outdoor play for a fortnight, so a child meets the same idea from several directions.
Games, songs, chants and stories carry the teaching. Children practise what they have learned through both structured and free play.
After the day’s topic is presented, children work in small groups so each one gets the teacher’s attention — and gets time with classmates, which is where social skill actually develops.
Art and craft, show and tell, role plays and simple experiments. Reading is nurtured, not drilled.
Classroom activities are planned to support physical, social, emotional and intellectual development together, rather than treating academics as the only measure.
Programs
Children can join us at two and stay through Grade 3. Because the same teachers and the same building carry them through, the jump from kindergarten to primary is much gentler than it usually is.

See the early years
Letters, sounds, numbers and pre-writing arrive through the Montessori lab, the writing corner and the library corner — in that order, and at the child’s pace.

We prefer the real to the fantasy. Learning centres around the room invite children to handle actual objects, and the outdoor space is used every single day — not saved for good weather.

Beyond the timetable
These are not extras bolted on for the brochure. They run through the year, they are included for every child, and they are where a lot of children find the thing they are good at.
Our people
We care for all our children like a family member. Like parents we protect the children and let them enjoy their childhood. From the Kovida Pre School statement of values
The school hires only trained teachers to work with young children, and puts them through refresher training time and again. Every adult in the building — teacher, helper, cook, driver — is part of the same duty of care.
